Great Hair Essentials

Products for Beautiful, Naturally Curly Hair

Turn to the experts at Curlfident for guidance on maintaining your curly locks. View our list of essential hair care products that every woman needs to keep her natural hair healthy and vibrant.

Sulfate Free Shampoo

Some regular shampoos strip your hair of everything, including natural oils, causing your hair to feel dry, brittle, and matted. But sulfate-free shampoos cleanse your hair without harsh chemicals that are often present in regular shampoos. We recommend:

• TRADER JOE's - Nourish Spa Balanced Moisturizing Shampoo
• Shea Moisture - Superfruit Complex 10-In 1 Renewal System Shampoo
• Shea Moisture - Organic Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo

Conditioners

Conditioners serve many purposes and can be used for deep conditioning, rinse-out conditioning treatments after washes, co-washes, leave-ins, and stylers. But, as always, make sure to read all labels and instructions carefully. We recommend:

Conditioners
• Giovanni - 50:50 Balanced Hydrating-Calming Conditioner
• TRESemmé - Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner
• Aussie - Moist Conditioner
• Suave - Tropical Coconut Conditioner
• Shea Moisture - Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner
• TRADER JOE's - Nourish SPA

Deep Conditioner
• Shea Moisture - Organic Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Mask

• EDEN - All Natural Deep Conditioner With Jojoba Oil
• PANTENE - Curly Deep Moisturizing Hair Treatment

Leave in Conditioner

• CANTU - Shea Butter Leave- In Conditioner
• Oyin - Handmade Hair Dew Daily Hair Quenching Lotion
• Giovani - Weightless Moisture Leave-In Conditioner
• AS I AM - Leave-In Conditioner
• QUIDAD - Moisture Lock Leave-In Conditioner
• Shea Moisture - Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen Grow & Restore Leave-In Conditioner

Oils

Oils are a must in every natural hair care regime because they seal in moisture after applying water or water-based products. Oils can be used hot, as a pre-shampoo treatment to baggy your ends, to seal your ends, and help tame frizzy hair. We recommend:

• Extra Virgin Olive Oil
• Sweet Almond Oil
• Jojoba Oil
• Jamaican Black Castor Oil
• Coconut Oil
• Vitamin E Oil
• Green Tea Oil
• Avocado Oil

Healthy Curls

Styling Aids

Explore the benefits of styling aids, such as creams, butters, pomades, gels, and lotions. These products can help hold your twists, braids, curls, and coils in place to easily create styles. We recommend:

• Shea Moisture - Curling Gel Soufflé
• Quidad - Climate Control Gel
• ECO Styler - Olive Oil Styling Gel
• Camille Rose - Naturals Almond Jai Twisting Butter for Coils, Curls & Twisting

Water

Water has numerous health benefits, but did you know it can also keep your hair healthy? Drinking at least a gallon of water a day can help keep your hair soft and moisturized.

Heat Cap

When you apply deep conditioner every week, you should use a heat cap. You can purchase a heat cap at Sally’s Beauty Supply Store or Amazon.com.

Applicator Bottles

Applicator bottles are great for oil storage. The bottles have applicator tips for easy oil application to your scalp.

Flexi Rods or Perm Rods

These curling rods are great to have on hand for curly styles, braid twists, and more. They’re your best friend because they help blend different hair textures.

Hair Pins, Clips, Headbands, and Other Accessories

Hair pins, bobby pins, headbands and other accessories are essential in a regimen. These simple accessories could be just what you need to change or spice up a hairstyle. Butterfly clips also help you to keep your hair in place or sectioned off as you apply products or style your hair.

Spray Bottle Filled With Water

Water is the best moisturizer for natural hair. We recommend that you can use your spray bottle to moisten your hair if it starts to dry while you're styling or detangling.

Diffuser

To add volume to your curls, consider investing in a diffuser for your blow-dryer. This will allow for your hair to dry faster and evenly.

Wide Comb

When styling your hair, it’s recommended that you use a wide comb often. This is indispensable for detangling and sectioning your hair.

Silk or Satin Scarf, Bonnet, or Pillowcase

Cotton sheets and pillows can suck the moisture from your hair and skin while you sleep. To protect your curls from cotton, consider using a silk or satin scarf, bonnet, or pillowcase when you’re sleeping.
